Solar camera strap is latest technology which is still under process, this technology will come very handy for photographers(nature,wildlife etc),tourists. Most digital SLR cameras are powered by lithium-ion batteries which are to be recharged frequently using electric outlet. If the battery exhausted and photographer didnt have spare battery with him then it means the end of the photo shoot. But this problem is going to end in few years or may be months because of this solar camera strap technology, thank Weng Jie the inventor of this concept.
How it works?
The strap attached to camera consists of a row of tiny flexible solar panels on it which enables the camera batteries to be recharging whenever the photographer is shooting in daylight. A storage battery is built into each end of the strap which stores the power produced by solar panels. The batteries inside the camera are not directly recharged using this solar strap but the built-in batteries of the strap does the work.
It seems likely cameras would need some modification to allow them to be powered by the solar camera strap itself. From the inbuilt batteries of the strap there will be a connection to the each of the camera battery, so that it gets recharged. Casp at each end of the strap helps battery to recharge, strap also consists of DC out which can be plugged into your camera.
There are devices like this in past but they failed to perform because of high power consumption of the devices in those days. But this time it may be more successful because power required for modern cameras is very low. The strap is only at the concept stage and is not yet available and there is no word on when or if it will ever be commercialized.
