How to Use a Dremel Chainsaw Sharpener

Using a dremel chain saw sharpener can drastically cut the time used to sharpen your chainsaw blade over manual filing. With the Dremel 1453 Chainsaw Sharpening Attachment Kit there is also no need to remove the chian from the chainsaw.

The first thing you are going to want to do is make sure that your know your chain size and pitch. Typically this can be found on the bar of the chainsaw, or in the manual. If you have looked and can t find this info take a look at this article on how to determine your chainsaw chian size.

Once you know your chain size you should consult the table that comes with the Dremel kit to determine the number of spacers to use between the clamp and guide. Also make sure to leave about a quarter inch of the grinding stone s shank exposed above the chuck. If your chain has the commone .325 inch pitch you will want to insert the orange store.

Next you will want to make sure that the provided gauge is square with the guide and just barley touching the griding store. If your guide is not square with the gauge you will need to loosen the mounting screws and readjust. Once you have everything lined up you can then tighen up the screws.

Now that everything is attached and square, your ready to start sharpening! Slowly brush the stone against the teeth on the same side of the saw as you. Also make sure to make an equal number of passes with equal pressaure on each tooth of the saw chain. Grinding one tooth more or less than the others can reduce the performance of your blade so make sure to keep them all as equal as possible! Also don t forget to mark your chain in some way so that you know where you started. Complete a full loop, then turn the chainsaw around and start on the other side.

Make sure to take note of the lines on the guide and use the 30 degree lines to keep the proper angle and keep everything consisten. You should also wear gloves while handleing and advancing the chain during sharpening and eye protection when your rotary tool is powered on.
